Purpose

The purpose of Balit Narrum is to provide collective response across the disability sector, Aboriginal home and community care service, Government and representatives from the Aboriginal Community to improve the access and participation of Aboriginal community engage with the disability sector.

Key functions of the network include the following:

• Provide leadership for the Northern metropolitan division on Aboriginal disability specific matters
• Provide advocacy in policy creation and implementation, to various networks and forums
• Foster relationships between Aboriginal community, Aboriginal community controlled organisations, Government and the disability sector
• Strategic overview and monitoring role of the Aboriginal disability specific projects
• Strengthen and build the cultural competencies of disability services providers within the Northern metropolitan disability sector.
• Improve access and participation of the Aboriginal community into the disability sector
